The New Year is a time of resolutions: eat healthier, work out often, and maybe even give back. As you turn over a new leaf this year (pun intended), join Art of Tea in supporting Gift of Life. We’re donating 5% of all matcha sales from now until the March to Gift of Life marrow registry. That means that every time you purchase matcha, you’re helping to fund Gift of Life’s search for marrow donor matches. And that’s pretty cool.
Gift of Life
Gift of Life is a marrow registry organization dedicated to finding donor matches for patients with blood cancers. 80% of donors are asked to donate stem cells and 20% are asked to donate bone marrow. Both donor groups are incredibly important, though, as a person is donated with a blood cancer once every 4 minutes.
Growing the registry is vital. While finding perfect donor matches is like finding a needle in the haystack, every new donor helps. All it takes to join Gift of Life’s donor registry is a quick cheek swab and then you’ll be included in future donor searches. Race and ethnicity play a role in the genetic makeup of tissue, so it’s important for people of all walks of life to join. You never know. You might help save a life.
Why Drink Matcha?
We’ve discussed matcha at length before because it’s hard not to keep talking and talking when the subject is matcha. This powdered form of green tea isn’t just delicious. It’s believed that it’s packed with nutritional benefits, too. Matcha’s powerful antioxidants, called caltechins, are what gives this tea a powerful punch. Because it’s made from ground whole green tea, the antioxidants, flavors, and caffeine content are more concentrated, too.
What might be most appealing about matcha is its versatility. You can drink matcha the classic way, using a whisk, bowl, and hot water to make a perfectly frothy cup; you can sprinkle matcha into your morning smoothie to give yourself a little more energy at the start of the day; you can add milk or milk substitute for a sweet hot or iced latte; or you can add a dash to recipes for vibrant and tasty baked goods.
Matcha’s powdered form can make it seem intimidating. We assure you, matcha is easy to use and wonderful to taste. And now that enjoying matcha benefits you and a great organization, it’s the perfect time to dive into this delicious drink.
